Los Prismas Basalticas is one of the wonders of Mexico. It's located in the state of Hidalgo, about 2 hours away from Mexico City. The rock wall formations were created by the slow cooling of volcanic lava. It is an amazing place.
We loved walking across the rustic rope bridge shown above. Even though I was a little nervous it was safe and sturdy. Once you're across the bridge there's a path that runs parallel to the canyon. In one direction you get to enjoy the scenery of the canyon.
If you head in the opposite direction of that path you go towards the waterfall. At the end of the path there's a staircase that allows you to descend the canyon. Below is a photo of my family at the bottom of the canyon. From there you also get a beautiful view. You can get fairly close to the waterfall and also to the rock walls. 
I loved being there next to those amazing rock formations. The stone looks dark almost black when it's wet, The formations look like pilars and they are so long and tall. I wondered if my husband had considered the possibility of climbing them.

We look forward to returning. There were bathrooms, small restaurants, playgrounds and other activities on site. It was the perfect place for us to go with our family.
